Foxconn chairman Young Liu is scheduled to visit India this year, a report by news agency PTI said on Friday. On July 4, he received the Padma Bhushan Award from Manharsinh Yadav, Director General of the India Taipei Association, in Taipei, Taiwan. This honor, which is India's third highest civilian award, was announced on the eve of the country's 75th Republic Day.
Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd., or Hon Hai Technology Group is known as Foxconn internationally is headquartered in New Taipei City, Taiwan.
The Foxconn chairman's last visit to India was in July last year, when he attended the Semicon India conclave and had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"... I am humbled to receive the award. I also want to say I am privileged to accept this award on behalf of all the fine women and men who work to do our part in growing local economies in India... I look forward to meeting Madam President in India this year," Liu was quoted as saying in a statement by PTI.
Foxconn Assembling iPhones And Google Pixel In India
Following Apple's lead, Google is said to begin manufacturing its Pixel smartphones in India soon, with plans to export them to Europe and the US. The flagship Pixel 9 series is scheduled for launch in India on August 13. According to a report by Moneycontrol, a portion of Google's devices will be manufactured in India and made available in Europe. This production will be managed by two manufacturing companies, Foxconn and Dixon Technologies. An official announcement from Google is likely to follow.
Apple started the assembly of Apple iPhones at the Wistron plant in Bengaluru, which India's biggest conglomerate Tata Group has since acquired. With a current workforce exceeding 40,000 employees, Foxconn aims to double its workforce this year. The group has a turnover surpassing $10 billion in India and has made cumulative investments exceeding $8 billion in the country.
Foxconn Cleared Of Discriminatory Practices In Hiring
This comes amid the regional labour commissioner in Chennai clearing Apple iPhone's biggest contract manufacturer and supplier Foxconn of any discriminatory practices in its hiring process.
According to a report by the Economic Times (ET), the commissioner informed the labour ministry that there is no evidence to support allegations of discrimination against married women in the recruitment and employment procedures at Foxconn's iPhone factory in the southern Indian state of Chennai.
