Apple iPhones got the crash detection feature when the iPhone 14 series was launched last year. Apple users got the safety feature on their iPhones and Apple Watches and now, rival Google has pioneered the crash detection feature. Originally launched for Pixel handsets in the US back in 2019, the crash detection feature is now rolling out for global markets, including in India, which was first spotted by Android Central.

Google is quietly expanding its car crash detection feature to five more countries, and also in India. The feature is only compatible with Pixel devices, namely for Pixel 4a and newer models, including this year's Pixel 8 lineup.

How To Activate Car Crash Detection Feature On Pixel Devices In India

To activate the car crash detection feature on your Pixel devices, access the "Personal Safety" app, go to "Features" and go to "Car crash detection". Enable the feature by enabling location and microphone services in the setup process.

Google introduced this feature on the Pixel 4 in 2019, initially launching it in select countries. Now, it's gradually becoming accessible to users in Austria, Belgium, Portugal, Switzerland, and India. Pixel models starting from the Pixel 4a and subsequent models, even the Fold, make use of the device's location, motion sensors, and nearby sounds to identify potential serious car accidents involving the user.

For this feature to operate, access to your phone's location, physical activity, and microphone is necessary. Should your phone detect a crash, it will automatically contact emergency services on your behalf. This call relies on Android's Emergency Location Service and may share details about your location and the incident.

Meanwhile, in a significant boost to India's domestic manufacturing drive, Google has announced its plans to produce its latest Pixel 8 line within India. This revelation was made during the 9th edition of the annual Google for India event and was graced by the presence of India's Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw.
