Apple recently started a new chapter in India by opening two official stores in Mumbai and Delhi amid much fanfare with Apple telling ABP Live that 50 per cent of the employees at both Apple BKC in Mumbai and Apple Saket in New Delhi are women. Now, a report by Economic Times says that the tech giant is adding "glitter" to on-ground retail jobs at the stores by paying Rs 1 lakh per month, which is almost three-four times more than the industry standard.

The report quoted industry executives as saying that Apple wants to create a premium experience reflected in their hiring. There are 170 employees at Apple BKC in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex whereas Apple Saket store has 70 Apple team members who come from a combined 18 states in India and collectively speak more than 15 local languages.

As per the website of the tech giant, its career page mentions that it is offering health and wellness medical plans, tuition expenses for educational courses, stock grants and discounts when purchasing Apple stock, paid leaves and employee discounts for Apple products to its retail staff.

The report also quoted an Apple retail employee, who anonymously said that there was extensive training that is helping him grow.

The Cupertino-based tech giant's ecosystem has also created more than 1 lakh new direct jobs in manufacturing over the last 24 months in India, Minister of State, Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar recently said. The MoS Electronics and IT added that 70 per cent of these people 19-24-year-old women who are starting their careers, acquiring skills and improving the ease of living for their families.

To recall, Apple began a new love story with India this month by opening two official Apple Stores in the country -- one in the financial capital Mumbai, followed by another in the national capital Delhi, almost twenty years after Asia got its first Apple Store. The opening of Apple's first retail stores in India comes amid the tech giant's broader retail push into the country, where its market share is relatively low. The duo of Apple Stores have a tie-up with the Apple India Online Store, thus, allowing buyers to make a purchase and pick that order from Apple BKC or Apple Saket.
