Apple is delving into the realm of personal robotics, viewing it as a significant area of innovation. According to Bloomberg, Apple has dedicated teams working on developing mobile robots that can accompany users within their homes. The project is highly confidential, and sources indicate that Apple has also created an advanced tabletop device utilising robotics to manoeuvre a display.
The project is still in its early stages, and it remains uncertain whether these products will eventually be released to the public. However, Apple perceives them as potential revenue streams, especially after discontinuing an electric vehicle project earlier in the year. Additionally, Apple plans to venture into mixed-reality goggles, although it is anticipated that it will take several years before these devices become major profit generators, as stated in the report.
The report added, “robotic smart display is much further along than the mobile bot, it has been added and removed from the company’s product road map over the years.”
Who Is In Charge & Where's Apple Manufacturing Personal Robotics
According to the report, Apple's robotics endeavours are currently underway in collaboration between its hardware engineering division and the AI and machine-learning group spearheaded by John Giannandrea. Supervising the hardware development aspect are industry experts Matt Costello and Brian Lynch. Prior to the cancellation of its electric vehicle project, Apple had notably emphasised three pivotal focus areas for its future trajectory: automotive technology, innovative home solutions, and advancements in mixed reality.
This strategic shift in focus underscores Apple's ongoing exploration and investment in cutting-edge technologies that have the potential to reshape various aspects of daily life. Additionally, the report delves into Apple's covert research and development facility, which replicates a domestic environment near its Cupertino campus in California. This facility serves as a clandestine testing ground for prototyping and refining upcoming home-related devices and initiatives, highlighting Apple's commitment to meticulous planning and innovation.
