Modern Aladdin's Genie aka Amazon Alexa has been a part of our households for six years now. This smart assistant has been making our lives easier by doing the tasks that we assign. With its presence in our homes, we have started to depend on it significantly. Even for the most basic things such as turning on a light, we depend on Alexa. Over the years, Amazon has worked with several brands in the nation to increase the selection of compatible smart home appliances that are compatible with Alexa.

Notably, Alexa takes command in Hindi, English and Hinglish. So, don't fret, you can communicate with her with ease just like you do with your friends. Let us have a look at some of the commands you can give to your Alexa and experience what king-like emotion Aladdin felt.

Smart Things That You Can Do With Alexa

  • Lumos: You can make Alexa turn on the lights in your room by simply saying, "Alexa, Turn on the lights", or "Alexa light on karo."

  • Dim the brightness of the bulb: You can even ask Alexa to dim the lights by saying, "Alexa, dim the lights", or "Alexa, light ko dim kar do."

  • Experience sunrise with your blinds on: Yes, you can recreate the wake-up lighting i.e., sunrise even in a room with closed blinds. One can simulate a natural sunrise using Alexa’s Wake-up lighting capability. Smart lights that support dimming and colour temperature can easily mimic the sunrise by gradually brightening and transitioning from warm to cool lighting to help one slowly wake up out of deep sleep.

  • Switching an electric appliance on or off after a specific period of time: You can easily do this with almost every appliance. One such example would be, "Alexa, turn off the AC after 15 minutes." You can even give the command for an electrical appliance to start at a certain time by saying, "Alexa, turn on the lights at 6 PM today."

  • Turn on the geyser: You can ask Alexa to turn on geysers as well so that you can relax for those extra 5 minutes without having to get up from the bed. All you will have to say is, “Alexa, geyser chala do."

These were just some of the examples that you can try with your Alexa. Feel free to experiment and give new commands as per your needs.
