Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and owner of X, has sparked a lively debate on his microblogging platform, formerly known as Twitter, by launching an informal poll that pits former President Donald Trump against Vice President Kamala Harris in a hypothetical 2024 presidential race. The poll, which Musk explicitly labelled as "super unscientific," asks his massive following of 195.2 million users to weigh in on who they would support in the next U.S. presidential election.

At the time of writing, the poll has attracted over 1.47 million responses, with a significant 78.1 per cent favouring Trump, while Harris trails with 21.9 per cent of the vote - nothing shocking there given Musk's ardent support of Trump. This outcome stands in stark contrast to recent national polling data, which shows Harris gaining momentum, particularly in key battleground states where she has been making inroads with younger voters.

Harris Continues To Build Lead In Some Areas

Musk’s decision to conduct the poll comes amidst growing speculation about the 2024 election, as Harris continues to build a lead in some critical areas.

However, Musk's followers appear to strongly prefer Trump, reflecting the tech billionaire's own political leanings. Musk, who has recently voiced support for Trump, has previously identified as a moderate Democrat but has suggested that moderates might now consider backing Trump instead of the incumbent, President Joe Biden.

Interestingly, the results of Musk's poll diverge from other polls, which have suggested Harris's increasing popularity, especially among demographics crucial to the election. Despite this, many in the business community seem to resonate with Trump's approach, viewing him as more favourable to business interests, a sentiment that aligns with the results seen in Musk’s informal survey.

Musk In Cabinet?

Meanwhile, Musk hinted at his willingness to participate in a future Trump administration, tweeting that he would be open to serving in some capacity. This announcement was accompanied by a tongue-in-cheek image featuring Musk at a podium with the sign "Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)," a nod to the cryptocurrency Dogecoin, which Musk has famously championed.

As the 2024 election approaches, Musk’s involvement and his vocal support for Trump could further influence the political landscape, especially given his vast reach and the significant engagement his polls and posts continue to generate on social media.
