New Delhi: Shiva Ayyadurai, who claims to be the inventor of email, have shown interest in becoming Twitter’s CEO. This comes just days after Elon Musk declared he wishes to step down as the chief executive of the microblogging platform as soon as he finds a replacement.

Taking to Twitter, Ayyadurai wrote, “I am interested in the CEO position @Twitter. I have 4 degrees from MIT & have created 7 successful high-tech software companies. Kindly advise of the process to apply.”

Speaking about the government backdoor portal into Twitter, Ayyadurai said it is 'beyond the law' and wrote, “@elonmusk you ALREADY know that the Government Backdoor Portal into Twitter exists & is “Beyond the Law” When WILL YOU dismantle the Portal that I 1st EXPOSED in my historic 2020 Lawsuit? Otherwise, you’re part of the GOVERNMENT CENSORSHIP INFRASTRUCTURE.”

It is to be noted that in 1978, Ayyadurai created a computer programme, which he called "email."

This programme replicated all the functions of the interoffice mail system - Inbox, Outbox, Folders, Memo, Attachments, Address Book, among others.

Later, on August 30, 1982, the US government officially recognised Ayyadurai as the inventor of email and awarded him the first US Copyright for Email for his 1978 invention.

Ayyadurai was born to a Tamil family in Bombay and he moved to the US at the age of seven.

Notably, Elon Musk on Tuesday said that he would step down as the chief executive of Twitter Inc once he finds a replacement, but will continue to run some key divisions of the social media platform.

"I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software & servers teams," Musk wrote on Twitter.
