OpenAI's groundbreaking creation, ChatGPT, marked its first anniversary on Thursday. The language model, developed by OpenAI, came to life on November 30, 2022, and has since made waves in the tech world, garnering attention from enthusiasts and users alike. Notably, it has achieved the distinction of becoming the fastest app to reach a user base of over 100 million.


Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, was among the first to extend birthday wishes to the innovative bot. In a tweet, Altman reflected on the past year, reminiscing about the final preparations made at the office the night before ChatGPT's launch. 






When you access ChatGPT's web client, you'll spot a festive birthday cap placed right above the OpenAI logo (pictured above). When you click on the cap, you'll be redirected to an OpenAI blog from last year which introduced the chatbot.

Altman, who recently returned to his position as CEO after an abrupt termination on November 17, faced a reshaped board of directors. The board underwent significant changes following a workforce rebellion, with Adam D’Angelo, CEO of Quora, being the sole exception to retain his position.


In a conciliatory gesture, Altman reached out to Ilya Sutskever, an ousted AI scientist and former participant in the effort to remove Altman. Altman, in a blog post, expressed love and respect for Sutskever, acknowledging his invaluable contributions to the field. Despite Sutskever's removal from the board, Altman emphasised the intention to continue their collaboration, exploring ways for Sutskever to contribute to OpenAI's ongoing initiatives.


Altman extended his gratitude to those involved in the resolution, specifically thanking Adam, Tasha, and Helen for their collaborative efforts. He highlighted the substantial contributions of Helen and Tasha to the resolution process, recognising their instrumental roles. Altman also acknowledged Emmett for playing a key and constructive part in achieving a positive outcome.
