Valentine’s Day is here and Bajrang Dal activists are out around towns yet again, spotting unsuspecting couples in public parks and similar locations, trying to put an end to Indians being wrongly swayed by “Western culture”.
Even earlier this week, on February 12, the nationalist outfit staged demonstrations across the country against Valentine’s Day and its ideologies. In Telangana, Bajrang Dal state convenor Shivaramulu warned citizens against holding Valentine’s Day events in the state, as party members burned down V-day cards in over a hundred locations across the state.
In Mangaluru, Bajrang Dal district convenor Naveen Moodushedde opposed celebrations to mark Valentine’s Day, asking gift centres not to promote gifts. “In the name of Valentine’s Day, unethical activities are taking place,” claimed Moodushedde. “India is known for its unique culture. Such an influence is having an impact on Indian culture.”
Bajrang Dal activists would often scour public places in cities, on the lookout for couples, often harassing and heckling them, even threatening to marry couples off if spotted in public parks and other places.

So, just for some harmless chuckles, we decided to ask OpenAI’s ChatGPT what would be the best way to avoid Bajrang Dal on Valentine’s Day in India. Here is what the chatbot responded:
“It is not recommended to evade any legal authorities or organizations. Instead, it is better to celebrate Valentine's Day in a safe and peaceful manner. One can celebrate the day with their loved ones at home or in a private place, away from public areas. It is also advisable to avoid any public displays of affection and respect the cultural norms and sensitivities of the community.”
While generating a responsible answer, it appears that ChatGPT is playing it safe. Given the history of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad youth wing, can we really blame it?
