Reliance Jio Teams Up With IIT Bombay To Develop 'Bharat GPT': What We Know So Far

"AI is going to 'consume everything'," said Akash Ambani at the IIT-B Techfest.

In a recent announcement at the IIT-B's Techfest, Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, revealed a collaboration between the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and Reliance Jio to develop an Artificial Intelligence initiative named "Bharat GPT." During the event, Ambani shared the company's commitment to integrating AI both vertically within their organisation and horizontally across diverse sectors.

Highlighting the expansive impact of AI, Ambani emphasised its transformative influence on various products and services, stating, "AI is going to 'consume everything.' To me, AI stands for artificial intelligence and also stands for all included." He underscored the comprehensive nature of AI, foreseeing its integration into every facet of business and technology.

Expressing enthusiasm for technological advancements, Ambani announced Reliance Jio's plans to provide 5G private networks, featuring a 5G stack tailored for enterprises. Additionally, he outlined the company's upcoming ventures, spanning the media space, commerce, communication, and devices.

Addressing the development of an operating system (OS) for televisions, Ambani revealed ongoing efforts, stating, "We have been working on our own OS for a while now for the TVs, and we are comprehensively thinking about how to launch it." Emphasising Jio's position, he labelled it as the "largest startup in the world" and India as the "biggest innovation centre" for the next decade. Ambani projected India's economic growth, anticipating it to become a $6 trillion economy by the end of the decade.

Speaking of ChatGPT rivals, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence platform, xAI, has announced the global expansion of its generative AI chatbot, Grok AI, to include India and 46 other countries, such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Notably, Musk's social media company X, formerly known as Twitter, recently updated its users on the gradual rollout of Grok AI chatbot access to Premium+ subscribers in the United States.

The announcement for the global rollout was first shared on December 14, and now the AI tool is available to anyone who wishes to pay up to Rs 2,600 per month (since access to Grok is only available for subscribers to X Premium+).
