The widely popular game, Black Myth: Wukong, was released on August 20, and since then it has become a global hit.The action-RPG developed by Game Science, a Chinese company, is currently available on PC and PS5, with a release for Xbox Series S/X scheduled for a later date. Earlier reports attributed the Xbox delay to technical problems. However, recent updates indicate that the game’s absence on Xbox is due to an exclusivity agreement with Sony.
Black Myth: Wukong Xbox Launch Delayed Due To Sony's Exclusivity Deal?
Forbes has reported that the delay of Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox Series S/X is due to an exclusivity agreement with Sony, rather than previously cited technical issues. IGN corroborated this information in a separate report on Friday, citing a source familiar with the situation who confirmed that Game Science had entered into an exclusivity deal with Sony.
The report described earlier claims of technical problems causing the Xbox delay as “inaccurate,” noting that neither Sony nor Game Science had publicly announced the exclusivity deal, and there were no reported technical issues with Xbox that would impact the game's release.
This new information contradicts previous reports and Game Science's earlier statement regarding the delay. Earlier this year, Game Science had stated on the game’s FAQ page that additional time was needed to optimize Black Myth: Wukong for the Xbox Series S/X platform.
Game Science had earlier said, “PC and PS5 users can enjoy the full game starting August 20, 2024. We are currently optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version to meet our quality standards, so it won't release simultaneously with the other platforms. We apologize for the delay and aim to minimize the wait for Xbox users. We will announce the release date as soon as it meets our quality standards.”
Sony and Game Science have not confirmed whether there is an exclusivity agreement between them. The developer has not yet provided a release date for Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox Series S/X.
