Chennai: Amid speculations that AIADMK was breaking alliance drama by inducting a couple of BJP leaders into the party, AIADMK former MLA Semmalai said, it cannot be assumed that AIADMK and BJP are in an alliance.

In an exclusive interview with ABP Nadu, Semmalai said, "This is not new in politics. Functionaries are coming from BJP to AIADMK. Till now many functionaries have jumped from one party or another in politics. From AIADMK, they have jumped to DMK and even BJP. “

“If they don't like the functioning of a party, it is common that they shift. This has been the trend in all parties. From a ruling national party if the members are coming to AIADMK then it is the trust they have in AIADMK. We never tried to poach them,” he said.

When asked whether it was a betrayal of the alliance dharma, Semmalai said, "We contested in the previous Assembly election together then we contested separately in local body election. So, you cannot assume that it'll continue. Alliance decisions are taken before the election so it cannot be assumed that we are in an alliance and we are breaking the alliance Dharma."

The former Mettur MLA said, “He (Annamalai) cannot be compared to Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa since the Dravidian stalwarts formed a party and uplifted it from scratch.” The statement of Semmalai comes after Annamalai said that he is here to take tough decisions and he is like leaders Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi. He said that whenever he takes such a decision the party men get upset but he cannot console everyone.
