Earlier, TN BJP Vice President N Thirupathy in connection with the case said, “TN Police has forgotten their duties. Police should immediately arrest the accused.”

On the alleged law and order issue in the state, he said, “Under DMK govt, Tamil Nadu has become a safe haven for drug lords and terrorist elements.”

On December 31, a meeting was held by DMK with the participation of DMK MPs Kanimozhi, Thamizhachi Thangapandian and Virugambakkam MLA Prabakar Raja to mark the centenary year of former DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan. After the meeting, two DMK workers allegedly misbehaved with a woman constable who was on her duty. The workers were also reportedly drunk.

Following this, a male constable came for help and caught one of the accused. They tried to take him to the station. However, the MLA reportedly requested the police to not make an issue with it.

Yet, senior police officials started an inquiry into the matter. They also ensured that action would be taken against the accused.

Against this backdrop, the woman cop reportedly withdrew the complaint.
