Chennai: Four including a woman, her four-month-old daughter and her eight-month-old nephew died after her brother-in-law set them on fire during a domestic quarrel in a village near Cuddalore on Wednesday. Two others including the wife of the accused and her mother are battling for their life in Cuddalore Government General Hospital.
According to a report on Times of India, the victim was identified as P Tamilarasi (27), her four-month-old daughter P Hasini and her eight-year-old nephew S Rakshan. The injured were identified as her sister S Dhanalakshmi (25) and mother Selvi (50). The accused Sarguru also died without responding to treatment.
Sarguru married Dhanalakshmi two years ago and the couple was having fights over various issues. Recently, during on such a quarrel, Dhanalakshmi left her house and started to live with her sister and her niece.
On Tuesday, the sisters called their mother to discuss about family members including the quarrel between Dhanalakshmi and Sarguru.
Against this backdrop, Sarguru barged into Tamilarasi's house and started to quarrel once again. However, the mother and Tamilarasi tried to pacify him and Dhanalaksmi.
Yet, he became furious and in a fit off rage he went out and brought a petrol can. He poured the petrol on all persons who were in the house, including himself and the children at the time. Later, he set everyone on fire.
Tamilarasi, her infant, Sathguru and another toddler died of burns while Dhanalakshmi and one Prakash, a local resident, were admitted to Cuddalore government hospital with 50 per cent burns, police added.
The Cuddalore Old Town police have registered a case and an investigation is on.
