The New Chief Justice of Madras High Court, SV Gangapurwala, said that he will adapt to the tradition and culture of Tamil Nadu and live with the people of the state. He also assured the people of Tamil Nadu that he will live in the state like how sugar dissolves in milk and gives an enriched taste to the drink.

The Union government appointed Justice SV Gangapurwala, who was the acting Chief Justice of Bombay High Court, as the Chief Justice of Madras High Court last week. Gangapurwala will serve as the Chief Justice for nine months. The post of Chief Justice of Madras HC earlier became vacant after the superannuation of Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari in September last year.

On Thursday, SV Gangapurwala, as per IANS said, "I bring the greetings from the land of saints and scholars to the people of the land rich in culture, art and intellect."

To the people of Tamil Nadu, he said, "When Parsis from Persia had fled and landed at Navsarai, the coastal region of Gujarat, the King there took a glass of milk filled to the brim and said you have no place here. The leader of the Parsis put sugar into the milk and said, 'We will live with you like this'."

As a result, the CJ of Madras HC also promised the same to the people of Tamil Nadu.

In the welcome address, AG R Shanmughasundram spoke on Tamil Nadu's connection with Chhatrapati Shivaji and the Marathi-speaking people in Tamil Nadu.

Later, CJ of Madras HC accepting his welcome address assured the Chairman of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and office bearers of various Bar associations that all stakeholders will be taken into confidence in every important decision-making process.
