Chennai:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’ in Varanasi at Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. For the event, music maestro Ilayaraja performed a medley of songs at ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’ in Varanasi.


According to ANI, “Music maestro Ilayaraja performs at ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’, along with others, in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. PM Narendra Modi, CM Yogi Adityanath and others present at the event.”

On Saturday, UP CM Yogi Adityanath addressing a program at Kashi-Tamil Sangmam program in Varanasi said, “With the Kashi-Tamil Sangmam being held here, visiting people will not only be introduced to the prospering cultural heritage but will also be introduced to age-old cultural unity.”

After the inauguration, PM Modi said, "Sangam plays a very vital role in our country, from sangam of rivers, knowledge & thoughts. This Sangamam is the celebration of India's diverse cultures."


"This confluence of Kashi and Tamil Nadu is as holy as the confluence of Ganga and Yamuna. While Kashi is the spiritual and cultural capital of India, Tamil Nadu holds India's oldest history," he said.






The month-long event is expected to have 2,500 delegates from Tamil Nadu. 


Earlier, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan took stock of the preparations for the event held in Varanasi. He also met the people who arrived on the first special train organised for Kashi Tamil Sangamam on Friday night.
