Chennai: Thousands of devotees witnessed the consecretation of the world-famous Sri Dhandayuthapani Swamy temple in Palani on Friday. The ceremony was performed between 8 am and 9.20 am in the presence of priests chanting vedic hymns and rituals.
The consecration festival or kumbabisekham was last conducted in the temple in 2006. The event was held after 17 years mainly due to the delay caused by the pandemic. The holy event is held once in 12 years as per the agama sastra.
On Friday, the priests amid the crowd chanting 'Arohara' took pots of holy water from the yagasalai to the shrine. They then poured the holy water on the kalasams atop the temple tower. Later, a 'Mahadeeparadhana' was also performed and flowers were scattered using helicopters from the shrine, as per a report on The Hindu.
According to ANI, “TN | A large number of devotees witnessed Kumbabhishekam at Sri Dhandayuthapani Swamy temple, Palani today (Friday). Flowers showered on Rajagopuram, the golden plane & devotees from a chopper.”
The authorities permitted 4,000 VIPs & 2,000 devotees to witness the ceremony. As a result, 3,000 policemen were deployed to ensure a law and order situation in the temple.
