Three people lost their lives and one person was injured following an explosion at a firecracker factory near Sattur in Virudhunagar district on Saturday. The injured individual is currently receiving treatment at the government hospital, according to the Virudhunagar District Collector.


According to ANI, Virudhunagar District Collector said, "Three people killed, one injured in an explosion at a firecracker factory near Sattur in Virudhunagar district. The injured is being treated at the government hospital."


The deceased have been identified as Rajkumar, Mariswamy and Selvakumar, all from the district.

Emergency services rushed to the scene to control the blaze and rescue those trapped inside. Local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion and assess the safety protocols in place at the factory.


The mishap has once again highlighted the need for stringent safety measures in firecracker manufacturing units to prevent such incidents in the future. 


Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin extended his condolences to the kin of the deceased. He also announced a solatium of Rs  3 lakh each to their family.






In February 2024, an accident at a firecracker unit near Vembakottai in Virudhunagar resulted in the deaths of nine individuals, including five women, and left seven others critically injured.


Earlier, on January 24, a separate accident at a firecracker factory in the same district claimed two lives. The victims were identified as P. Kaliraj, aged 20, and K. Veerakumar, aged 50. The incident took place at the Thalamuthu fireworks unit in Vachchakarapatti, Virudhunagar district.
