The heavy pre-monsoon rain that lashed UP and Delhi on Thursday and Friday resulted in the crumbling of infrastructure at several places. While in Delhi, the roof outside an airport terminal collapsed and caused one fatality, three labourers died after their temporary huts collapsed into the foundation pit of a building due to heavy rain on Friday. In the Greater Noida area of Uttar Pradesh, three children died after they were trapped under the debris of a collapsed wall of an under-construction building.


The incident occurred in the Khodna Kalan village in Dadri tehsil. News agency ANI cited the police as saying that as many as eight children were buried alive under the debris. While five of them managed to escape, three were declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The five injured children are being treated in the hospital.


Gautam Buddha Nagar Additional District Magistrate Atul Kumar said a relief operation was immediately launched after the incident. "We are investigating the incident... Financial help will be provided to the victims," Kumar was quoted as saying by ANI.


Two Killed In Lightning Strike In Uttar Pradesh


In another rain-related incident, a teenage girl and a 46-year-old woman died on Friday after being struck by lightning in the Kudwar area of Sehgauli village in Sultanpur district.


The incident occurred around 3 PM, claiming the lives of Kusum Kori and Nancy (13), who took shelter from rain under a tree, said Kudwar Police Station SHO Ram Vilas Yadav.


Sub-divisional Magistrate Thakur Prasad assured financial assistance to the families of the victims.


Two Children Drown In Waterlogged Delhi


Two kids were among three people who drowned in waterlogged areas of Delhi after heavy rain lashed the national capital. Two boys, aged 8 and 10, drowned while playing in a five-foot-deep rainwater-filled ditch. The incident occurred in the near Pusta No. 5 in the New Usmanpur area. They were rushed to the hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.


In a separate rain-related incident, a man drowned when he was stuck in a flooded underpass in Shalimar Bagh in northwest Delhi. The victim is believed to be a labourer from Azadpur Mandi but is yet to be identified.
