Chennai: Tamil Nadu DGP Sylendra Babu on Thursday said that the videos showing attacks on labourers are false and action will be taken against those spreading the videos.

On Thursday, DGP Sylendra Babu, "Someone in Bihar has posted a false and mischievous video that migrant labourers were attacked. The videos showing the attack on two labourers are both false. The two incidents took place much earlier and the clash wasn't between migrant workers and locals in Tirupur and Coimbatore.”

“One of the videos showed a clash between 2 migrant worker groups. Another showed a clash between Tamil Nadu people,” he said.

Sylendra Babu said: “All are twisted and made to appear like Bihars are attacked. However, law and order is maintained very well in the state. Action will be taken against those spreading false news.”

The response of Sylendra Babu comes after a post with two videos were doing the rounds claiming that Biharis are attacked in the state.

Till now, Tamil Nadu has reported two major clashes between migrant workers and the residents of Tamil Nadu. A clash broke out between two groups of labourers including migrant workers at a garment factor in Tiruppur on January 14. The two groups of workers initially started to argue over a petty issue but soon the argument turned into a fistfight. Later, the police said that the incident was blown out of proportion after it went viral on social media.

In another incident, a clash broke out between Engineering students and the migrant workers at a private college canteen on Feb 14 over serving of foods in Coimbatore. However, a compromise was reached and the issue was settled without registering a case.

Meanwhile, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said, “I have come to know through newspapers about the attacks on laborers from Bihar working in Tamil Nadu. I have directed the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of Bihar to talk to the officials of the Tamil Nadu Government and ensure the safety of the laborers from Bihar living there.”
