Chennai: Thirumangalam All Women Police Station is under the scanner after a woman said that she was allegedly forced to clean up the police station since she did not have money to pay bribe for acting on a complaint. According to a report in Times of India, the woman went to the police station to check whether the police acted on the complaint she gave against her second husband of sexually abusing her daughter. However, the woman said, the police instead of acting on the complaint asked her for a bribe.
On Monday, the incident came up after Kavitha (name changed) gave the complaint to the police commissioner's office and the complaint was forwarded to Anna Nagar DCP.
According to the complaint, Kavitha started residing with her mother, brother, her 13-year-old daughter and her 9-year-old son in a rented house in Vanagaram after her husband passed away. Later, she met a van driver Karpagakani of her daughter's school in Vanagaram. Both of them developed their relationship and the couple got married. Then Kavitha moved with Karpagakani. However, last year Karpagakani took Kavitha's son and daughter for teaching swimming to a nearby Thiruverkadu lake. However, after returning Kavitha's daughter allegedly said that Karpagani touched her inappropriately and sexually abused her.
Based on this, Kavitha filed a complaint against Karpagakani and a case was registered under POCSO on August 19. However, Kavitha went to the station again to check whether the police acted on the complaint. But she said that she was allegedly told to give Rs 5,000 as a bribe to the police to act on the complaint and since she did not have the money the police reportedly told her to clean the police station if they had to act on the complaint.
The DCP has started further probe.
