Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the family of Vignesh, who died in the custody of police in Chennai. The CM also assured a fair probe and informed Tamil Nadu Assembly that the three police personnel who interrogated the suspects were suspended in connection with the death.

In the Assembly, MK Stalin on Tuesday responding to the attention motion passed by AIADMK regarding the custodial death of Vignesh said, "The DMK is committed in getting punishment for the accused involved in the crime. DMK will also stand with the oppressed and get them justice."

"Hence, as a measure to help the underprivileged family of Vignesh, I order an assistance of Rs 10 lakh. Tamil Nadu will bear the expense for Suresh's treatment," he said.

On April 18, during a vehicle check, police stopped the auto in which Vignesh and his aide were traveling in Chennai. The police then seized ganja in the possession of the duo and took them into custody.
