Chennai: The Chennai Cyber Crime Police booked Tamil Nadu Youth Wing President Vinoj P Selvam under sections of IPC including for spreading misinformation with an intent to incite communal tensions. The BJP leader was booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for his tweet against the DMK government. 


A release from the police said, the action was taken against Vinoj Selvam based on a complaint by Elangovan from Kilpauk. The complaint was filed against a tweet by Vinoj P Selvam in which he said the DMK cadre demolished 130 Hindu temples in 200 days. The complainant said that the leader tweeted false information which may incident violence and cause hatred among the public.

Acting on the complaint, the cyber crime registered a case. 


The cyber crime has booked a case under Section 153 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), Section 505 (1) (b) (punishes those who intent to cause or likely to cause fear or alarm among the public) and Section 505 (Statement conducting public mischief) under Indian Penal Code.


Earlier, Vinoj P Selvam tweeted, "There is a news that those who showed black flag during Republic Day celebration by celebrating "Tamil Nadu in Freedom struggle", have demolished 130 Hindu temples."


"The Hindu religion more than during the freedom struggle is getting smashed only now. At least to have good governance in the local body you should support BJP and get freedom," he said.


The tweet of Vinoj P Selvam comes at a time when all the political parties in Tamil Nadu are gearing towards facing urban local body elections in February. The model code of conduct is already in place in the state from Wednesday.
