Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai led a massive protest demanding DMK-led government to reduce fuel prices in the state on Tuesday. The BJP also urged the government to slash the price of petrol by Rs 5/litre and diesel by Rs 4/litre.

On Tuesday, the party workers started their march towards Secretariat but were stopped near Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore. There was also a melee after a protester hurled a chappal against the police in Egmore. However, the police brought the situation under control after which Annamalai and other leaders walked to their vehicles. Later, the protesters were also disbursed.

In a tweet, Annamalai said, "Our patience has dried out & it’s time to remind the @arivalayam Govt & @CMOTamilnadu of their long-forgotten poll promises. Our cadres & the people of Chennai marched in large numbers registering our protest against this Anti-people government."

“The @arivalayam govt has to stop giving excuses expressing its inability to honour the poll promise of reducing fuel prices and subsidy for gas cylinders. We are only asking @arivalayam to reduce petrol & diesel prices as promised by them,” he said.
