Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai has been booked by the Dharmapuri police under relevant sections for allegedly promoting religious enmity between two groups. The cases were registered against him over his altercation with a group of Christian youths who opposed his entry into a church during his rally En Mann En Makkal outside St. Lourdes Church in Bommidi near Pappireddipatti on January 8.
TN BJP chief tried to garland the statue of Mary in St Lourdes Chruch in Paapireddipatti. According to the police, a number of youngsters opposed his admission inside the church, citing the Manipur problem and raising slogans against him, as per a report on ANI.
A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing Annamalai explaining the Manipur problem to the adolescents, resulting in a violent argument.
Several local media outlets shared the footage on their X (formerly Twitter) handles. In the video, Annamalai attempted to appease the protestors by placing his hand on their shoulders.
"Don't speak like DMK. This is a public place. What rights do you have to stop me? What would you do if I rallied 10,000 people and staged a dharna?," Annamalai was heard saying in the viral video.
Later, with police intervention, Annamalai was eventually able to garland the statue
On Wednesday, Annamalai took to twitter said, "Today in Krishnagiri, during our #EnMannEnMakkal PadaYatra, we were overwhelmed with the love & affection brothers & sisters of Krishnagiri have for our Hon PM Thiru @narendramodi avl."
