Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP leader K Annamalai alleged that there were security lapses during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to inaugurate the 44th Chess Olympiad at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. The PM took part in the inauguration ceremony of the world-class event in July and the event was also attended by dignitaries from 180 countries across the world.
Senior BJP workers along with Annamalai handed over the memorandum to Governor RN Ravi.
K.Annamalai said, "Today, along with other senior leaders of @BJP4TamilNadu, we met the Hon Governor of TN, to present a memorandum on a grave security lapse committed by the @arivalayam govt, during the visit of Hon PM Thiru @narendramodi avl to Chennai on 28 & 29th July 2022."
“The worst part is TN Govt trying to hide that now. We are presenting our memorandum with evidence of state govt’s wrongdoing. Nobody seems to be safe under the DMK Govt’s rule in Tamil Nadu,” he said.
Annamalai said: “We also presented a memorandum on the rampant corruption in implementation of Jal jeevan in our state and have requested for an independent audit in this matter.”

The BJP members alleged that the handheld metal detectors, door frame metal detectors and bomb detectors were not in order. They were also overdue for maintenance, they said.
The party also mentioned about the role of ADGP (intelligence) in the fake passport scam, deteriorating law and order issues.
Meanwhile, DGP Sylendra Babu said, "There were no security lapses when the PM came to Chennai for the event (in July). Everything was fine. We don't have any communications regarding that. SPG didn't send any communications on security lapses."
