Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi chief Thol Thirumavalavan urged Tamil Nadu government to declare two districts of the state including Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi as caste atrocity-prone due to the increased number of atrocities against Dalits in the districts. The demand of the leader also comes after the recent attack on two Dalit students by members of the intermediate caste at Vannarpettai in Tirunelveli district.

On Monday, Thirumavalavan met the children, Chinnadurai and Chandra Selvi, who are currently receiving treatment at Tirunelveli Government Hospital after an attack by intermediate caste members. He also took part in a protest meeting held in the district.

According to IANS, VCK chief said two children were injured in the attack and were admitted to the hospital while the perpetrators of the crime did not receive any punishment and were walking free.

Therefore, he urged the state government to constitute a special intelligence cell under the state police department to prevent the attacks.

Highlighting that the attacks were taking place against Dalits in South Tamil Nadu, especially Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi district, the MP condemned the continuous attacks against the oppressed.

Thiruma worried that a few directors like Pa Ranjith and Mari Selvaraj are giving voice to Dalit politics but only to be pinpointed by people as the cause of such atrocities.

Last week, a 17-year-old boy and his 14-year-old sister were viciously attacked with sickles for complaining to the authorities about caste-based harassment at a government-aided school in Vallioor, Tamil Nadu. The boy's parents had complained about the students from the intermediary caste because they were reportedly making their son run for errands like buying cigarettes.
