Chennai: A 35-year-old history-sheeter died in the custody of police in Thanjavur on Monday. The history-sheeter, identified as Sathyavanan, a native of Thandanvankulam in Mayiladuthurai, with over 15 cases against him, reportedly died after complaining of chest pain amid investigation on Sunday.

According to a report by ABP Nadu, the Thanjavur West police picked up Sathyavanan for inquiry in connection with a theft case where miscreants stole 5 lakh cash and 6 sovereign gold in a locked house of a BSNL officer in Thanjavur on August 12.

Following this, the police took the fingerprints of Sathyavanan and compared them with the fingerprints received from the crime scene. Reportedly, the fingerprints of Sathyavanan matched with the fingerprints received from the spot. Along with Sathyavanan, his accomplices Surya and Abdul Majeedh were also detained by the police.

On Sunday, according to the police, while they were crossing a railway track to visit the crime scene Sathyavanan fell to the ground twice. When the police questioned Sathyavanan, he reportedly confessed that he is a Ganja addict and he fell to the ground since he did not consume drugs since the arrest by police. However, due to the fall, Sathyavanan suffered injuries to the body, said police.
