Chennai: In an incident caught on camera, a Gujarati woman was abducted by her parents and their supporters for marrying a Tamil man from a different caste in full public view near Tenkasi. The incident that took place on Wednesday came to light after the CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media.

Navin Patel, a Gujarati man, started a factory in Sengottai of Tenkasi district several years back. Later, Navin along with his family settled in the district. He joined his daughter Krithika at a private school where she met one Vineeth. Krithika and Vineeth, who works as software engineer in Chennai, reportedly became friends in school at Ilanji village. They also entered into a relationship six years ago, as per a report.

Against this backdrop, Vineeth told The New Indian Express that he tied the knot with Krithiga against the wishes of her parents in Nagercoil on December 27 and registered their marriage. Krithika also gave a statement that she wanted to go with Vineeth to the police.

Despite the statement, the parents of Krithika reportedly tried to abduct her on January 14. However, the couple had a narrow escape.

Later, Vineeth said that he gave a complaint against her parents to Chief Minister's Special Cell and the Collector. On January 25, he said that the police summoned him and told him to withdraw the complaint against her parents. As he refused and tried to return home, he said that he was waylaid by Krithika's father Naveen Patel and her mother who also started assaulting them. They also dragged Krithika onto the floor and abducted her.
