New Delhi: Amid growing concern about the Omicron variant of Coronavirus in the country, Tamil Nadu reported a marginal increase in the Covid cases. Especially, Chennai has been on an increasing trend with its Covid tally. The health officials in the state claim that the tests have been doubled.


"Chennai is showing an increasing trend in the Covid cases, tests have also been doubled. We are looking at focussed localised containment. We need to ensure that the spread gets prevented," Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan told ANI.

The health secretary revealed that the bed occupancy level is very low in the state now.


 


While the state reported 619 Covid cases, a marginal growth compared to Monday's 605 Covid cases, 194 people from Chennai have tested positive for the virus on Tuesday. Chennai district led the table on Tuesday followed by Coimbatore (84) and Chengalpet (59). On Monday, the tally of Covid cases in the capital city was 172 and on Sunday it was 171. As many as 27 districts of the 38 districts have recorded less than 10 cases.


On Monday, Tamil Nadu Health and Family Welfare Minister Ma Subramanian urged the people to mandatorily wear masks and clean hands every now and then with sanitisers. Citing crucial statistics, Subramanian said people in slums and public places not wearing masks will pose threat to the rise in Covid cases in the state.
