Moderate to heavy rainfall was experienced in several locations across Tamil Nadu, particularly in North Interior Tamil Nadu, with isolated occurrences in South Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Tuesday. Additionally, mild rain was observed in the Karaikal. The continued rainfall has led to an increase in water levels in various water bodies and has caused flooding in specific low-lying regions, impacting residential areas. On Wednesday, Water Resources Department issued a flood alert to 30 villages situated along the banks of the Thenpennai River in Tiruvannamalai.

According to The Hindu, a flood alert was sounded as a precautionary measure due to the release of 1,000 cubic feet of water from the Sathanur Dam. The decision to release water was made as the dam's water level rose to 117.80 feet, approaching its total capacity of 119 feet.

In another part of Tamil Nadu, villagers crossed a canal with the help of a rope between the two neighbouring villages Valasai and Pudu Valasai.

The India Meteorological Department said that the rains are due to the formation of a low-pressure area which is soon expected to concentrate into a depression and gradually into a cyclonic storm.

IMD said, "The Low Pressure Area over south Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal became a Well Marked Low Pressure Area over Southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining south Andaman Sea at 05:30 hours IST of Wednesday, the 29th November, 2023 and now lay centered over the same area.

"It is likely to move westnorthwestwards and concentrate into a Depression over southeast Bay of Bengal on 30th November, 2023.
Thereafter, it is likely to move northwestwards and intensify gradually into a Cyclonic Storm over Southwest &
adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal around 2nd December," IMD said.
