Chennai: A day after a power cut interrupted the speech of Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Durai Murugan during a government function in Katpadi, two assistant engineers of Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) were transferred on Tuesday. During the event, the power went off and although it resume shortly the Minister left the function without completing his speech.


According to a report on The New Indian Express, the two assistant engineers, Chitti Babu and Ravi Kiran, were transferred for administrative reasons, said a note from the Superintending Engineer of Vellore Distribution Circle Ramalingam. 


The two assistant engineers were transferred to a sub-station in Vaduganthangal in Vellore district. 


The incident took place while the Minister was participating in a function to distribute bicycles at Katpadi Girls Higher Secondary School on Monday. While the Minister started his speech, there was a power cut at the school which interrupted his speech.

Vellore Collector Kumaravel Pandian, Anaicut MLA Nandakumar and deputy mayor Sunil Kumar who were present at the venue immediately spoke to the EB workers and ensured that the power was restored.

Yet, the Minister left the school without completing his speech.

Govindaraj, regional secretary of Central Organisation of Tamil Nadu Electricity Employees, a wing of CITU said that transfer was not the solution to the incident. 


Govindarajan said, EB staff are not informed about such events well in advance so such incidents are unavoidable. 


The union also thinks that the Minister would not have been behind this decision, Govindarajan said.


Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister Senthil Balaji said that there haven't been any power cuts and assured that there will be no electricity outages in the future.
