Chennai: A man who bought 35 parcels of vegetarian food from Shri Balaji Bhavan at Arani in Tiruvannamalai claimed that he found a rat head in the beetroot side dish in one of the food parcels. The incident reportedly took place on September 11. 


According to a report on ABP Nadu, a man Murali from Tiruvannamalai purchased 35 food parcels for a condolence event on September 11. The veg food was delivered to his house on Sunday.


Against this backdrop, the family was having food while they reportedly found meat. After checking it, the family claimed that it was the “head of a rat”.

Murali immediately took the item back to the restaurant and complained about it to the management. However, the management said that the food was given to Murali six hours before lunch and said that the allegation was baseless. 


Murali then approached the Arani police and gave a complaint against the restaurant. The police then sent the parcel to Food Safety Office in Tiruvannamalai.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu food safety department has been conducting frequent raids at eateries after the death of a girl who consumed shawarma in Kerala in June 2022 and after a 10-year-old girl died while 29 others were hospitalised after having biryani at '7 star' hotel in Tiruvannamalai last year. 


In September 2021, a 10-year-old girl died and 29 others were hospitalised after they consumed briyani and chicken at '7 Star Hotel' near Arani bus stop in Tiruvannamalai. The 10-year-old girl first developed food poisoning and was rushed to Arani Government Hospital. However, doctors declared her brought dead. Her family members who also suffered from giddiness and vomiting were moved to a private hospital.
