Tamil Nadu is set to host Khelo India Games 2023, an annual national-level multidisciplinary grassroot games in India. Making the announcement, Tamil Nadu CM Stalin thanked PM Modi on Saturday for providing the opportunity to host the games.
Taking to social media, Stalin said, "I thank Hon'ble PM Thiru @NarendraModi Avl for having accepted my request to host the #KheloIndia Games 2023 in Tamil Nadu. These games will serve as a platform for young sportspersons from all Indian states to showcase their sporting skills.”
“As everyone witnessed during the 44th Chess Olympiad, Tamil Nadu will conduct the Khelo India Games also with befitting grandeur and showcase Tamil culture and hospitality," he said.
Tamil Nadu CM made the request to PM Modi in-person at Chennai Airport on April 8.

In March, Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin also met Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anurag Thakur in Chennai. During the meeting, Udhayanidhi Stalin requested the union government to release Khelo India infrastructure fund for the state.
Udhayanidhi said, "We insisted on considering Tamil Nadu for the South Indian branch of Sports Authority of India. Also asked for the opportunity to host the National Youth Fest and Asian beach games in 2024."
Udhayanidhi Stalin also met PM Modi in New Delhi in March and gave him a list of demands including an opportunity to host the Khelo India Games. He also demanded the establishment of the Sports Authority of India complex and exemption from the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).
