Chennai: Despite the downpour ceased in Chennai, there is no respite for the denizens residing in Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin's constituency, Kolathur, as they complained of waterlogging, power cut persists for straight seven days.

When ABP Nadu reached out to the people in the waterlogged area, the people seemed to be unhappy with the government's work. "No one has done anything since the rainfall has stopped. We are forced to walk in waist-deep water," said a resident. However, the motors to pump out the clogged water have been installed.

"It's been five days since there is no power. The streets are waterlogged and the main issue is that the rainwater is mixed with the sewerage water. I have been living here for over 18 years and this is the third time, we are facing this issue," said another resident. "Now this is a predictable issue, but for the last four years, no attempts were made to fix this. If the government has to focus on an issue, they should fix the drainage system in this area," he added.

Speaking to ANI, another resident Praveen Kumar said, "It's the 7th day with waterlogging & no power. No officials have come here. Drainage water is mixed with rainwater, so there's odour & a lot of insects & snakes coming into the house."

DMK workers attack protesting residents in Chennai

Residents of Chennai's Mandaveli were attacked by DMK workers on Friday for protesting to pump out sewerage water from their house. The residents staged a protest by standing in knee-deep water but were attacked by the ruling government's party cadres for blocking the road.

When the road in the nearby area caved in on Thursday due to heavy rains, the underground sewage system was damaged and as a result, got mixed with the rainwater which enters their houses. Despite the residents pooling in money to buy diesel for the pumps to remove waterlogging, the issues persist, said one of the residents, according to a report in The New Indian Express.

However, DMK MLA of the region visited the spot and ensured to resolve the issue on Friday.
