Tirupur police opened fire at a 21-year-old accused who killed four members of a family at Kallakinaru last week while trying to flee from the spot. The police shot on the knees of the accused. The police, however, admitted the accused Venkatesh to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

According to a report on New Indian Express, the accused identified as Venkatesh and Sonnai surrendered at Tiruppur North Police Station on Wednesday. The police then transferred the accused to Palladam police as they were investigating the case.

At the same time, Venkatesh's father Iyyappan was also arrested by the police in Coimbatore.

The trio murdered four persons including two women in the village. The deceased were identified as Senthil Kumar, his mother Pushpavathi, cousin Mohan and another relative Rathinambal. All the dead were found dead with several cut injuries on their bodies near a house located close to Senthil Kumar's shop in Kallakinaru. The case came to light after the villagers and police found the bodies of the deceased at the spot.

Following this, the police registered a case under Section 302 of IPC and started the investigation. They found out that it was a murder due to previous enmity.

The police said that Venkatesh worked as a driver for Senthil Kumar. On the day of the crime, Venkatesh started consuming alcohol along with two others near a shop owned by Senthil Kumar. When Senthil Kumar told them to disperse from the spot, the trio surrounded him and started attacking him with a knife. On hearing his cries, his cousin, mother and other relatives who rushed to help were also hacked to death.
