New Delhi: Manokaran, the leader of the Kondakarai Panchayat Council, was hacked to death by a gang of 10 people near Minjur in Chennai, on Sunday night.
Manokaran hails from the Kondakarai area near Minjur in Tiruvallur district, and was an influential figure in the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). He contested and won the Kondakarai Panchayat Council election in the recently concluded rural local government elections. The 44-year-old leader has been the most influential person in the area as the Panchayat President.
He recently went with his family in a car to attend an event held at Kuruvimedu area near Minjur in Chennai last night, following which a tipper lorry collided with Manokaran's car near Kuruvimedu Ashok Leyland while he was returning home after the show last night.
Manokaran got out of the car, following which he was beaten to death by a gang of 10 people who came in a lorry, ABP Nadu reported.
After killing him, they fled from the site in the lorry. The gang has also beat Manokaran’s wife and daughters who tried to stop the mob from beating Manokaran. Nevertheless, they survived with minor injuries.
However, Manokaran lay in a pool of blood on the spot where he was beaten. Manokaran’s wife and his daughters shouted for him to be saved. Later, the villagers rescued the injured panchayat leader and took him to a private hospital in Wimco Nagar for treatment. Doctors who examined Manohar said that he died on the way home.
The assassination of AIADMK leader Manokaran has caused a stir in the area. Minjur police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
Manokaran was a prominent figure who had various occupations. The police have begun their first phase of investigation into whether the murder took place due to professional competition or some other reason.
