Chennai: A couple in Perambalur informed the health officials that their newborn baby girl died and they have buried her near their home. The couple has absconded along with their two other girl daughters after they were caught for killing a five-day-old infant. The police were on the lookout for the couple.

Kowsalya gave birth to a healthy girl baby on December 21 at Sedapatti Primary Health Centre in Perambalur.

According to a New Indian Express report, a couple -- O Muthupandi, a 30-year-old labourer and his wife 23-year-old Kowsalya -- came to the hospital on December 20 with labour pains. The doctors helped Kowsalya give birth to a healthy baby girl and then they discharged her after a couple of days.

On December 26, the health officials went to check on the baby but she was reported missing and the couple said that the baby died suddenly and they buried her near their home.

However, once the health officials left after an inquiry, the couple fled along with their two daughters. They just left behind Muthupandi's ailing father and ever since the police got suspicious about the couple, they have been interrogating the accused father.

The police spotted the place where the baby was buried and have decided to exhume the body. Following this, a post-mortem will be conducted on the baby on Wednesday.

The police have registered a case based on the complaint given by the Village Administrative Officer Muniyandi under Section 318 (Concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body) of the Indian Penal Code.
