Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced that the state government will review a proposal to extend reservation benefits to members of the Backward Class, Most Backward Class, and denotified communities who have embraced Islam on Thursday.
Stalin made this statement in response to a request raised by Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) leader M.H. Jawaharullah during the Assembly session on Thursday. The CM assured that the government would seek advice from legal experts and take appropriate action on the matter.
Jawaharullah had earlier highlighted the denial of reservation benefits to individuals from the BC, MBC and notified communities who have converted to Islam.
The Chief Minister affirmed that the DMK government remains committed to addressing the concerns of various communities, similar to the efforts made to improve the social, economic, and educational status of Adi Dravidar, Backward Class, Most Backward Class, and denotified communities, aiming to safeguard their interests.
On Thursday, MK Stalin, during the legislative assembly session, criticized the Governor's conduct, suggesting it seemed to align with his political agenda. This remark came in the context of R N Ravi's refusal to read out the customary address by the head of state on February 12.
Addressing the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor's address, Stalin emphasized the tradition where the head of state addresses the assembly at the beginning of the year. He asserted that the governor must read out the government's policy document prepared by the Cabinet.
