With the future of cars 'electrified', carmakers are looking at working together to leverage one another's resources. Volkswagen Group and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd have signed their first supply agreement on components of Volkswagen's modular electric drive matrix (MEB) for Mahindra’s purpose-built electric platform INGLO (IN for India and GLO for Global). The development confirmed their collaboration, which has been in talks for a while.

Mahindra said that the deal covers the supply of certain electric components of the MEB platform as well as unified cells. Along with the agreement, Volkswagen and Mahindra can also expand their collaboration, including a venture for possible local manufacturing of EVs in the future.


Under the latest agreement, Volkswagen will supply about 50 GWh in a term which will be for several years.


The first products based on MEB platform components will arrive at the end of this year. Previously, Mahindra revealed plans to launch five all-electric SUVs in India based on its new INGLO electric architecture.

We have already seen the products in concept form and these SUVs would be coming with either a dual motor configuration or a single motor. All-wheel drive (AWD) will also be on offer.


The first such electric SUV would be the XUV.e8. While the basic shape would be similar to the XUV700 with the internal combustion engine, the platform is different and will allow for EV-related features, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging. The styling would also be EV-focused and different, with the XUV.e8 getting a blanked-off grille and a full-width LED bar. Mahindra will launch a slew of electric SUVs and also even have a dedicated sub-brand of EVs for the Indian market in future.
