Chennai: Not just sleeping pills even overdosing on any hypertension and diabetes pills can lead to death revealed the demise of an alcoholic man who died after overdosing on diabetes pills in Trichy on Monday. The drunk man reportedly took over several 10s of diabetes and hypertension tablets used by his wife in the inebriated state. 


According to a report in the Times of India, a 51-year-old man Syed Mustafa of Thennur was an alcoholic. On Friday too, he consumed liquor and reached home. However, in the inebriated state, the man tried to take his pills but instead, he consumed the pills for hypertension and diabetes kept for his wife. He then went on to overdose on the tablets and then became unconscious due to the influence of alcohol.

However, around midnight while he was in deep sleep, he vomited the tablets and slept again. But the next day, he reportedly did not wake up and the family thought that he was still in an inebriated state.


On December 5, Syed suddenly developed seizures and he was admitted to MGM Government Hospital. In the emergency ward, the doctors examined him and provided treatment. However, they informed the family that the organs of Syed were already severely affected by the overdose of the tablets. 


They also said that they could have retrieved the patient if they had reached the hospital earlier. 


In this backdrop, Syed passed away on Monday without responding to treatment and his body was handed over to the family after an autopsy on Monday.
