Chennai: A man died by suicide after losing over Rs 15 lakhs to online gambling in Tirunelveli district on Tuesday.
According to ABP Nadu, the deceased was identified as Sivanraj (34). According to police, "Sivanraj downloaded an online rummy app on his phone recently and he started playing the game. Initially, he gambled for a small sum and won the money back."
"Following this, Sivanraj got addicted to the game and soon gambled all his savings. However, he lost the whole sum. As a result, in order to earn all the lost sum back, he got money as debt from his parents, relations and friends. Once again, he gambled the money. However, he lost all the money," they said.
The police said, Sivanraj lost Rs 15 lakh on the whole and became depressed.

Unable to handle the loss, he went to a farm near Panakudi on Monday and consumed pesticide. Soon he suffered from vomiting and swooned. The people who were near him immediately rushed him to Tirunelveli Government Hospital.
However, the doctors declared him dead.
After the death of Sivanraj, the death toll on online gambling in the state has increased to 38.
The death has also come at a time when TN Governor RN Ravi is yet to provide assent to the Bill banning online gambling.
