Chennai: A man who was arrested for allegedly snatching a mobile phone was found dead in the restroom at Samayapuram police station in Trichy on Monday.
According to a report on Times of India, the deceased A Muruganandham of Oriyalur in Ariyalur district was held for snatching a mobile phone from a devotee at Samayapuram Mariamman Temple on Monday.
The police took him to the station and reportedly made him sit. He then asked permission for going to the restroom and went to the toilet a few times. However, he did not return the last time so the police became suspicious and went to check on him at the restroom. However, they were shocked to find him dead.

Trichy SP Sujithkumar said that it was a case of custodial suicide and the accused used a waist threat to hang himself.
When asked about how the waist thread was strong enough to hold his weight, the SP said that even he saw the deceased hanging with the waist thread.

The police have sent the body to Trichy Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital for autopsy. The autopsy will be performed in the presence of Manachanallur Tahsildar.
The SP also reportedly viewed the CCTV footage at the station.
Following this, Samayapuram police have registered a case under various sections including section 176 of CrPC.
Muruganandham also had a murder case pending against him in Ariyalur district. He was accused of murdering his mother.
He also got estranged from his wife and children.
