New Delhi: Protests intensified on Sunday in Tamilnadu's Kallakurichi district as protestors set the school bus ablaze over the death of a class 12 girl student's death, who left behind a note alleging that she was being tortured by two teachers. The incident took place at Chinna Salem near Kallakurichi in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday (July 12).

CM MK Stalin, who was admitted to Kauvery hospital in Chennai due to Covid complications, condemned the act of violence. "The situation in Kallakurichi is deplorable.  After the ongoing police investigation into the student's death, the culprits will surely be punished," he tweeted. The CM ordered Home Secretary and the DGP to rush to the spot.

Speaking at the press conference on Sunday, DGP C Sylendra Babu said that the investigation is underway into the death of a Little Salem schoolgirl. "Small group of people came to protest at school, we made arrangements but they collected larger number of people. Instead of peaceful protest, they started attacking. Had to lathi-charge. Now, added 500 police personnel have been sent. We want to arrest all accused who attacked a school, no one would be spared. We have videos as well," Sylendra Babu said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

Police imposed Section 144 to take control of the situation.

The post-mortem report of the girl pointed out that the victim appeared to have died of hemorrhage and shock due to multiple injuries. Madras High Court will hear the case seeking transfer of investigation related to the death of a student to CBCID on Monday.
