Tamil Nadu: HR&CE Department Issues Notice To Queensland Amusement Park For Encroaching Temple Land

The minister held a meeting with the commissioner of the department J Kumaragurubaran and other department officials to review the progress of ongoing works in Chennai I and II zones. 

Chennai:  The Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment (HR&CE) department served a notice to Queensland Amusement Park located in Chennai for encroaching temple land, said HR&CE Minister PK Sekar Babu on Saturday. 

The minister spoke to news persons after holding a meeting with the commissioner of the department J Kumaragurubaran and other department officials to review the progress of works that were taking place in Chennai I and II zones. 

Pointing out that his department had moved the Madras High Court in connection with the case, he said that the Court in turn had asked them to retrieve the land from the park within four weeks, according to a report in the Times of India.  

Quoting the minister, the report said that the department had served them the notice on Friday and the land would be retrieved before the given time period. The park had encroached upon 177 acres of land.

Reacting to the statement made by BJP leader H Raja, the minister said that Raja should keep his words and the department would not hesitate to retrieve the encroached temple lands. Earlier, Raja said that he would stop talking about the HR&CE department if the department manages to retrieve the temple land from the theme park. 

Speaking about the tussle between the trustees of Sri Adikesava Perumal temple in Mylapore and the department, he, as per the report, said that a special official had been inquiring into the irregularities in managing the properties and finance of the temple as per the Madras High Court directions.
