Chennai: Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai on Tuesday said that the party will stop protesting if DMK agrees that they came to power by making fake promises about reducing petrol and diesel prices.

BJP Youth Wing and Women’s Wing of Tamil Nadu protested near the collector’s office against the government for not reducing the petrol and diesel prices whereas other states have reduced it promptly.

This protest was held under the leadership of Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai, in which other prominent BJP leaders of the state including the president of BJP Youth Wing Vinoj Selvam, ex-union minister Pon Radhakrishnan, Karate Thyagarajan, and Karu Nagaraj took part. Other BJP volunteers also joined the protests stating that they condemn the ruling government's statements of "no provision for further reducing the fuel prices in the state," reported ABP Nadu.

Annamalai also said that the Tamil Nadu government is concerned only about TASMAC and not about the people of the state.

These protests by BJP come days after the state Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan rejected the Centre's plea to cut the tax further on fuel prices. He has notified that the state has already reduced Rs 3 per litre on petrol and due to which the state had to incur losses of more than Rs1,100 crore.

He rather suggested that the Centre should cut down the taxes levy on the fuel prices and it has only increased burden on the people. While boasting in the state's government's move, he noted that Tamil Nadu was the first state to cut down on the taxes on both petrol and diesel.
