Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi took a jibe at DMK and highlighted the irony in the reluctance of some to embrace the term 'Bharat', a name he attributed to the foundational work of ancient 'Rishis'. He alleged that the divisive tactics initiated by the British continue to find resonance today with certain factions denying the very nationhood of India and disputing the existence of Lord Ram.
The Governor's remarks come at a time when BJP's Amit Malviya accused DMK MP Raja of mocking Lord Ram, making derogatory comments about the people of Manipur, and challenging the notion of India as a cohesive nation.
At a book launch event in Chennai on Tuesday, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi said, "It is ironical that the place which was built by all the 'Rishis' thousands of years ago and whose ideas created Bharat...Yet they struggling to say we are Bharat. The 'break India' project that the British started still continues...Some people deny India is not a nation."
"They deny that Lord Ram exists. When you deny, you are trying to destroy the culture and identity of the Tamil people..denying reality," he said.

Earlier, DMK MP Raja said, "If you say it's this God, this is Jai Sri Ram, this is Bharat mata ki jai, then we and Tamil Nadu will never accept Bharat Matha and Jai Shriram...I don't believe in Ramayanam but as per story this is Kamba Ramayanam. 4 brothers accepted Kuravar, Vetuvar, accepted monkey as brother. That is what Ramanayan is about which is good for wellness of humanity. But what you (BJP) say is bad."
