Chennai: Days after DMK MP TRVS Ramesh was booked for murdering a 55-year-old labourer working at a cashew nut processing unit at Panikankuppam in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore district, he surrendered before a court in Panruti on Monday.
According to the report in The News Minute, the deceased was identified as K Govindarasu, a resident of Melmampattu village, and was working as a labourer at the cashew nut processing unit owned by Ramesh. CB-CID officials had filed a chargesheet in connection with the case on September 24 and arrested five people for their involvement before the court.
As the DMK MP was absconding at that time, the officials had sought permission from the secretary of the Lok Sabha to arrest the MP.
Meanwhile, the MP in a statement said that certain people were using the FIR registered against him for their political gain in a way that had affected the DMK and to prevent further accusations against the DMK leader, he had surrendered before the court. “I will prove that the accusations against me are baseless,” he added.

Quoting police officials, the report said that the deceased was questioned about a theft that took place in the unit when he was returned home from work and during the argument, a group of men including the MP had allegedly assaulted the deceased who suffered injuries on his neck and face.
Even though Govindarasu was taken to the Kadampuliyur police station to report the theft, police officials had asked them to take the deceased to hospital for treatment, the report said and added that the men had allegedly left the deceased at the unit to die.
He was found dead on September 20 and a couple of days later, a petition was filed at the Madras High Court. The Court in turn had ordered an autopsy and transferred the case to CB-CID.
