Chennai: A couple in Madurai handed over their third girl child to Madurai district Child Welfare Committee on Monday. The incident follows the female infanticide of a newborn third baby girl of a couple in Madurai district.
According to a report on Times of India, a third girl baby was born to a couple at the primary health center at Melakkal a few days ago and once the doctors and nurses got to know that the baby girl was their third child they provided counseling to the couple. They also asked about their financial capacity and whether they would be able to raise a third girl child.

Anjali was the first baby who was handed over by the parents this year at Madurai district CWC, said Pandiarajan. The member also said the public who cannot take care of their child can hand over the baby to CWC or approach a GH or PHC for help instead of taking such drastic steps.
In 2021, a total of 16 children including 3 boys were handed over to CWC in the Madurai district.
