Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday wrote to PM Modi requesting to direct the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to convert eight state highways into National Highways.


Taking the letters to Twitter, Stalin tweeted, "Have requested Hon'ble PM Modi to direct Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to issue requisite notifications declaring eight State Highway roads in TN which connect major pilgrimage, trade and tourist centres as National Highways as they need immediate improvement."

In a letter to PM Modi, he wrote, "I am informed that Ministry of Road Transport & Highways is drawing up guidelines for development of new National Highways. However, as these eight roads have already been accorded in-principle approval, they can be notified as National Highways without waiting for the guidelines. Therefore, I request you to direct MORTH to issue requisite notifications declaring these eight state. roads as new National Highways and to entrust the development works with the State Government with the necessary funding."


"I assure you that the State Government will extend its full cooperation to take up all the necessary improvement works in these roads in the current year itself," he concluded.
